I am a proactive fast learner with a proven track record of solving hard, transformational problems and a commitment to excellence. Over the course of several acquisitions I have expanded from software development to focusing on transforming all things related to portfolios of services or subscription products. Much of my experience is in transforming teams, products, and organizations, focusing on accelerating value and improving experiences. That includes:

  • Software, Hardware, and Service Products
  • Network, Application, and Digital Experience Monitoring
  • Delivery and Scalable Operations
  • Product and Services Portfolio Strategy, Structure, and Roadmaps
  • Market and Technology Trends
  • Strategic Transformation and Automation
  • Cost and Price Modeling
  • Personas and Business Outcomes
  • Operations and Program Management

My broad experience in technical and business roles has helped me develop a key differentiating strength: I am able to align technical solutions across the business with detailed and specific outcomes, and effectively communicate transformation to stakeholders at all levels.

I thrive in environments that bring unique challenges, and my experience spanning a variety of roles within both startups and large corporations gives me a unique breadth of knowledge. When I'm not working, I am a constant learner and active participant in my community. I love to spend my free time traveling with my wife and our two sons, focusing on having great experiences whenever we can.

Cisco

Software Dev Manager > > Services Portfolio Manager > > Strategy and Transformation Director >> Technical Program and Product Ops Director

Currently lead a Technical Program and Product Operations team focused on strategically scaling the product lifecycle of SaaS products. Previously led a Strategy team driving the transformation of Cisco's product portfolio towards subscription and as-a-service offers. Prior to that, progressed through roles expanding service products for risk, security, asset management, and Cisco's Business Critical Services portfolio. Initially responsible for the software development, deployment, and support of applications, but progressed into owning the product requirements, roadmap, and their market/customer value. Ultimately became responsible for the strategy, execution, operational efficiencies, and margins of a large portfolio of products and services. Was responsible for teams in multiple time zones and became a key member of the innovation team for portfolio and delivery transformation.

Current Role - Director Technical Program Management and Product Operations - ThousandEyes

Lead a global team responsible for managing strategic programs, technical programs, and product and engineering operations. Focused on driving post-acquisition scale at ThousandEyes while maximizing strategic impact to Cisco as the core fabric of observability and assurance.

I consolidated and built the program team from the ground up redefining the processes and communications that product management and engineers follow in order to quickly improve scale, quality, and strategic alignment without disrupting velocity.

Key initiatives include:

  • Transformed business unit-wide Objective and Key Results framework to align and report on strategic goals
  • Centralized Technical Program Management and Product Operations team to build SMEs, standards, and career paths
  • Created product and engineering portfolio management processes with real-time roadmap and initiative lifecycle management

Prior Role - Director Strategic Solutions for Network Services

Built the team responsible for driving Portfolio, Program, and Tools solutions to accelerate Cisco's transformation towards an as-a-Service or Subscription portfolio.

I initiated a bootstrapping exercise to define the scope and priority of strategic initiatives, and quickly see results critical to the success of a newly formed Business Unit in parallel with building out a complete strategic roadmap with stakeholder input, measurement, and feedback loops.

Key initiatives include:

  • Defining Offer Standards for Program Management and Reporting. Building the systems, processes, and templates needed for the program team to execute in a standardized and scalable way.
  • Enabling the Product Management process for portfolio and offer development. Selecting and tailoring the platform and processes needed to move offers and features from ideation phase all the way to release. Included trainings, tool configurations, and integrations.
  • Building a Portfolio Analytics Dashboard for collecting metrics and actioning decisions across all offers. Standardizing data collection and reporting across multiple teams and offers to provide a centralized view of the entire portfolio. Designed requirements in a Crawl/Walk/Run approach to replace disparate reporting as soon as possible, while adding enhanced metrics and insights, as well as automation and scalability over time.

Key Project - Product Manager for Large Services Transformation

Key contributor and interim lead product manager for the portfolio transformation of Business Critical Services (Cisco's multi-billion dollar portfolio of optimization services and solutions).

I led a complete strategic restructuring of the portfolio with a focus on customer business outcomes, simplification of ordering and packaging to expand targeted markets, and increased automation of end-to-end sales and delivery processes to realize more accurate costs and higher margins.

I executed implementation of a new ordering platform, new delivery platform, new global cost modeling, new sales training, and significant restructuring of internal tools and processes ultimately requiring the alignment and sign-off of several hundred SMEs and stakeholders. Responsibilities included:

  • Restructuring a combination of over 2000 individual services, architecture, and technology deliverables with complex and manual scoping that could take weeks to price, into persona- and outcome-based packages with predefined costs and automated approval processes
  • Leading the development of requirements, change management, training, and rollout approach for the new tools and processes required to support the transformation
  • Overseeing development of detailed personas and services outcomes to strategically focus the portfolio on solutions and aid the salesforce
  • Completing rewrite of legal services descriptions, with a focus on simplification and maintainability
  • Successfully passing all compliance and stakeholder approvals on a very tight timeline

Overall Accomplishments
  • Played key role in multiple mergers and acquisition, including serving as technology SME to integrate two security company acquisitions, which were the first of Cisco's pure-play services acquisitions. Integrations included tools, people, services, and delivery methodologies
  • Led the pilot of a transactional and subscription product delivery solution for 10k+ users who deliver over $2B in revenue. Served as SME for production build out
  • Remediated a service product that was in distress as well as increased revenue and margins by overhauling the cost and price modeling
  • Led product management for a newly created People and Communities innovation team, contributed to innovation framework, technology strategy, overall portfolio strategy, and execution.
